Gamelab 2007

The other day I signed up for some conferences on video games that are going to take place from July 9 to 13 at the University of Oviedo, titled ā€˜New trends in video game creation’. The conferences are organized by Gamelab, and they serve so that I can take 4.5 credits of free configuration as a summer course (Paying a fortune, it must be said), although anyone can go if they notify the person in charge.

The course will consist of around twenty talks, round tables, debates and other activities in which you can learn the best kept secrets of the industry and share your concerns, projects and ideas with professionals of national and international prestige (such as Gonzo SuƔrez, creator of the Commandos saga).

The program is as follows:

Monday, 07/09

  • The history of video games
  • Compressed talent: 8-bit games
  • From video game to combat software
  • Don Quixote for DS

Tuesday, 07/10

  • New technological challenges of video games
  • Truths and lies about programming for Next Gen
  • Round Table: Business opportunities in the video game sector
  • Networking (reception with the creators)

Wednesday, 07/11

  • Development and exploitation of independent games
  • Profiles needed in the industry
  • Creating big little games
  • Play for money: Video games, slot machines, online gambling and sports betting

Thursday, 07/12

  • Video Games around the World
  • Music creation for video games
  • Video game design: the entrails of the creature
  • THQ’s Worms Open Warfare 2

Friday, 07/13

  • Business opportunities in Second Life
  • Life beyond life -The Origins of the Interactive Virtual World

Let’s hope it’s not as disappointing and full of lies as the conference given by Jorge Huguet (Sony Marketing)
