Surely many of you will remember the series Marriage with Children, which was broadcast on La 2 a few years ago and which has now been adapted and converted into a Spanish series, of which I have only seen a couple of episodes because it seems like the worst thing in the world to me, like most Spanish series. The good one, the real one, was the American version, with the lives of Al, Peggy, Kelly and Bud, and it is the one I am going to tell you a little about.
Esta serie contaba la vida de la familia Bundy, una familia de Chicago de finales de los 80 (1987) formada por Al (Ed OâNeil), un marido machista y desgraciado que estaba constantemente lamentĂĄndose de su familia. Peggy (Katey Sagal), una extravagante mujer pelirroja que siempre solĂa vestir de forma hortera y que pasaba los capĂtulos pidiendo dinero o âamorâ a su marido.
La exuberante Kelly (Christina Applegate), el prototipo perfecto de chica rubia tonta, que conseguĂa todo lo que querĂa gracias a sus âbuenos haceresâ. Por Ășltimo lugar estaba Bud (David Faustino), el hermano pequeño de Kelly, del que todo el mundo se burlaba por su estatura, y que siempre estaba intentando ligarse a chicas por todos los medios posibles, aunque la mĂĄs caracterĂstica creo que era el hacerse pasar por un chico rico. AdemĂĄs estaba Buck, que era el perro de la familia, y que se caracterizaba por pensar con voz de persona.
We donât have to forget the neighbors next door: Marcy DâArcy and Jefferson DâArcy. Marcy was the typical pedantic posh (Or as my friends would call her, âa full-fledged dominatrixâ), while Jefferson was the typical lazy guy who all he did was kiss the ground his wife walked on.
Yo creo que la gente que veĂa esta serie lo hacĂa por dos razones: o bien porque no le quedaba otro remedio, ya que lo que echaban en la tele a esas horas era bastante âpobreâ o por ver a Christina Applegate (Seguramente Ă©sta sea la razĂłn primordial por la que la veĂan los adolescentes). A mĂ, personalmente, la serie siempre me dio un poco de mal royo, ya que mostraba una familia en la que no sentĂan cariño unos por otros.
The chapters always used to have the same elements:
- On the one hand, Peggy was always looking for sex with Al and he always avoided her until the end of the episode, when it was inevitable.
- Whenever Marcy went home, Al insulted her in front of her husband, who did nothing.
- Al always asked Peggy to make him food, but she never made it for him or made it wrong.
Possibly, a series like this today would have no future, since it would be continually attacked by associations of all kinds (feminists especially), but those were other times, when people were considered responsible enough to know what they could see and let their children see, and they did not insist on censoring things just for the sake of it.
What happened to the actors in this series?
- Al (Ed OâNeill): He is still in the world of film and television, (in a fairly slow way) where he is currently working on the series âJohn from Cinccinatiâ, although he previously worked on films such as The Bone Collector, Spartan or the series The Unit.
- Peggy (Katey Sagal ): La carrera de Kate posiblemente haya sido una de las mĂĄs activas (y curiosas) de todas, ya que, ademĂĄs de aparecer en algunas pelĂculas (de dusoso Ă©xito), ha sido la encargada de ponerle la voz a Leela en Futurama, ha participado en dos capĂtulos de Perdidos (En el papel de Helen, el amor telefĂłnico de Locke) y en otras series como The Shield o Boston Legal. Actualmente estĂĄ participando en el doblaje de los nuevs dvdâs de Futurama.
- Kelly (Christina Applegate): Ha continuado su carrera en la televisiĂłn, participando en numerosas series como Jesse (Emitida por Canal + hace unos años), Friends (Interpretando a la hermana pequeña de Rachel). Actualmente es la protagonista de la serie Samantha Who? Y prĂłximamente se la verĂĄ en la pelĂcula The Rocker (:P) de Peter Cattaneo.
- Bud (David Faustino): He participated in many series in a rather brief way, as a voice actor for secondary characters or making cameos. He is currently filming the movie The Hustle.
