Gears of War for PC: Great Game

The enormous Brumak from Gears of War Gears of War, the flagship game of last 2007 for Xbox 360, has seen the light last November on PC. In principle you might think that it is a conversion of the Microsoft console game, it is actually a version that has some extras and improvements that make it gain many points compared to said version.

Gears of War is a good game, there is no doubt about that, but it has some quite significant shortcomings, mainly in the plot.

The game begins when FĂ©nix is rescued from prison by an old ex-partner. From there, we will visit various places in a post-apocalyptic world immersed in destruction caused by a war between Humans and an extraterrestrial race called the Locust. During the game, the causes of this war between Locust and Humans are unknown, what is the purpose of the Locust on Earth or what is their origin, we do not know anything. Throughout the 6 missions of the game (One more mission than the Xbox version), we will have to carry out small mini-missions without any plot explanation. We don’t know why we do one thing or another.

Surprisingly, the game works perfectly with a Nvidia GeForce 6600, a 3.4 GHz Pentium IV and 2GB of RAM, although obviously it cannot be played at maximum graphics, it can be played with acceptable quality and fluidity. So if you were reluctant to try the game because you don’t have a state-of-the-art PC, maybe you should try the game, which is very well optimized.

What they haven’t optimized at all are the exaggerated difficulty jumps in the game. Despite having played it on the normal difficulty mode, there are easy moments and other desperate ones (The city of survivors, protecting the house of Phoenix, the insane colonel Raam
)

Regarding the extras that the game brings, the most interesting are two. The first is a level editor, undoubtedly an addition that demonstrates the care with which the people at Epic treat PC players. The second addition is a new level, just after leaving Phoenix’s house, in which we must recover electricity from a bridge and kill a gigantic monster called Brumak.

One of the things that surprised me most about the game was the length of the campaign, since I had read somewhere that it only lasted 5 hours, and, although it may be that I don’t play as much as I did in my younger days, the game lasted me more than a week.

In short, Gears of War is a great game that every video game lover should try, both for its fun and for its frenetic development, although it may only appeal to lovers of action games and shooters.

PDTA: Pay attention to the moments of the Berserkers and the Kryll. They are great!
