Subsidy for computers from the Principality of Asturias

At the end of last year, - when we were still in the electoral period - the government of the Principality of Asturias (PSOE) presented an initiative through which the purchase of a computer would be subsidized to all those young people between 18 and 35 years old registered in Asturias.

There are two subsidies:

  • 500 euros (350 for computer and 150 for connection): In the event that you do not have an internet connection or want to improve the one you have contracted
  • 350 euros for computer: In case you already have an internet connection and do not want to improve it.

The initiative in principle is not bad (although I still don’t know if it has been granted to me), if it weren’t for the fact that, as always, the politicians have doubled it on us without us realizing it.

The money dedicated by the Principality of Asturias to these subsidies is 7 million euros as can be seen in the BOPA and according to La Nueva España, there have been 25,000 applications. If we assume that all applicants have chosen the subsidy without internet connection (350 euros), we can do a simple multiplication: 25,000 applications x 350 euros = 8,750,000 euros, which is completely out of budget.

I hope that in a while I will be able to write saying that everyone took the money they had asked for, although I’m afraid that’s not going to be the case and that they’re going to have to get screwed, as with most politicians’ promises (And we Asturians know perfectly well what kind of person Areces is… and what he does with his promises).

Finally, in case you are looking for information on this topic, I recommend that you take a look at the forum of the University School of Computer Engineering of Oviedo, since there is a long debate and a lot of information about it.

EDITED: It seems that (at least, the first applicants) we have taken the money that corresponded to us, despite all the scaremongering. Chapó.
