We all have the right to a well-deserved vacation, and mine’s turn has arrived. While you read this I will be suffering enjoying an almost 5 hour flight to the magical city of Istanbul. But the reason for this entry is not to spread my vacation destination online, but rather to offer you a preview of what I intend to be my first report for Bocabit.
I was in bed one night thinking about my vacation when an idea came to mind that, after chewing it a little, seemed quite interesting: taking advantage of the trip to prepare a general scope report that could show you the two sides of a different culture.
Let me explain, generally we Westerners have a fairly unified and somewhat biased opinion of Arab countries due, in large part, to some media. My goal is to try to offer you an alternative vision to what we are used to and take advantage of the 15 days that I will spend in the lands of the former Ottoman Empire to try to clear up a mystery based on my own experiences, which if successful would be something like “**Turkey, Europe or Asia?”.
And this country aims to join the European Union in the near future, a very controversial issue among the members of the euro zone themselves, divided between supporters and detractors of admitting this nation, with a Muslim majority, to the list of member countries.
If everything goes well, the first week of August you will have the opportunity to judge for yourself the reality of a country halfway between religious conservationism and the yearning for modernization.
