The game costs 800 Microsoft Points (About 10 euros) and is available from November 3rd in the Spanish arcade games bazaar. If you want to try it, a demo with a more than acceptable duration is also available. In addition, the demo even saves the cards and achievements you have earned in case you decide to buy the game after finishing it.
The game is divided into several modes. The first one we will find is the story mode or for one player, in which we will face off in a tournament against characters from the world of Yu-Gi-Oh!. Although we will only start with 40 cards in a single deck, for each lost duel we will be rewarded with 1 to 3 cards and for each won duel, with several depending on our performance.
If you donât know the world of Yu-Gi-Oh! Donât worry, because apart from the fact that you donât have to know anything about the history of the series, learning to play is very simple.
To explain it in a very basic way, I will say that each of the duelists starts with 8000 life points and you have to try to leave the opponent at 0 before he leaves you. For this we have 3 types of cards: trap cards (purple), magic cards (green) and monster cards (brown). The latter have two numbers associated with them, one is for attack and the other is for defense. Which one is used when two monsters fight depends on the placement of the card on the board. If it is placed normally, the card will be in attack; On the contrary, if it is placed horizontally, the number that will matter is the defense.
Surely I have confused you more with this explanation than you were, but donât worry since there are several tutorials within the game that explain all the concepts of this card game, from the most basic to more complex movements. I assure you that it is not very difficult to learn the basics of the system but as the concepts progress, things become a little more complicated, although it is all a matter of practice.
Another very important way is to personalize the decks. In the game we will have available all the cards in the series from the beginning to the last installment â5Dâ. With them we can organize decks as we like, or also build prefabricated decks of Yu-Gi-Oh! characters. Konami assures that to take out all the cards it will be necessary to win about a thousand duels so we will have the game for a while. To âmake it easierâ we can buy envelopes with money in the form of Microsoft Points, although this option is not available at this time (or I have not been able to find it to tell you the price). All of this allows for the creation of many deck combinations, so customization is assured.
The last game mode and not the least important is the multiplayer mode (I donât recommend visiting it before managing to make a decent deck, if we donât want to get beat up :P). Here we are offered to duel with other players from all over the world. So fun is guaranteed for a long time, even after finishing the single player mode. In addition, an online leaderboard is also included to compete with our friends.
In my first hours with the game, the truth is that it seems to me to be the best game of this type for the Xbox 360, far above the Xbox Live Arcade Magic game (Magic: The Gathering - Duels of the Planeswalkers). The latter only allowed us to play with decks premade by the game, so the satisfaction of creating a deck to taste was zero.
The CPU level is quite good and I have already taken a few beatings, especially in the final parts of the tournaments. Although I have been taking my first steps offline, I will not delve into the online mode until I create my custom deck.
The truth is that it is a pleasure that they release a game of this style for Xbox Live Arcade and even more so since it is so careful and well made. A 10 for Konami that has given Xbox 360 users a serious alternative to the Magic game, which was the only game of this style in the catalog. Furthermore, it has managed to surpass it in many aspects, at least for Yu-Gi-Oh! fans.
For me, a totally recommended purchase, with a very high quality/price value, you will surely love to play it, at least for card game fans.8.5/10
