El Aula del Mar es el museo de Luarca en el que se exponen los famosos calamares gigantes. Hasta hace poco estaba situado en un lugar bastante alejado del pueblo, por lo que decidieron moverlo a uno de los sitios de visita indispensable del pueblo: la parte externa del muelle. Sin embargo, los arquitectos no debieron tener en cuenta varios factores para su ubicación y construcción.
To begin with, they located the building in a place where when there are strong tides (2 or 3 a year) the waves break with a force capable of destroying whatever they catch in their path (In the video you can see that right in the corner the railing is torn off, and the same thing happened last year). The second factor is that even if they had taken the first case into account, it seems obvious that the construction materials were not correctly estimated, because in a site prone to strong tides you do not put up a wall just a few centimeters thick, something that many of us from Luarque observed as they were building it. Cost savings or poor planning?
The main victims in this case are, as always, the people of Luarco, because after this destruction, the Aula del Mar is forced to close for a while (And it opened in August!) and it surely affects tourism to some extent.
