Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II, a neither want nor can

/ bocabit / videojuegos

Star Wars The Force Unleashed II Star Wars The Force Unleashed II es el claro ejemplo de cómo no hacer una secuela.

The first part of this saga tells us the adventures of Starkiller, an apprentice of Darth Vader, and it is a game that, although not outstanding, is very entertaining, has a fairly acceptable duration and the missions are varied. In addition, the bosses of each level are quite fun since they all have a lot of flair.

In this second adventure we play with what we are told is a clone of Starkiller and unfortunately LucasArts has decided to kill it. It all started with a staff cut, due to a change of directors. This led to the near cancellation of the game, which was only saved because it was about to end.

The game has very good graphics and is entertaining until you start spending more than a few minutes playing and you realize that something is not working…

  • The enemies are repeated over and over again throughout the game, so they manage to bore you. Normal soldiers and the same ones, but flying ones, are the enemies that populate 90% of this game.
  • The levels are absurdly linear. You advance by overwhelming minions of the lowest level for your powers, until you reach the boss of the level. When you get to these, you realize that they are horrendous and have no depth. Just cast magic and sword strikes without any type of pattern and they are already dead.

Captura del Juego

And although it may seem incredible, I have not yet mentioned the worst: the duration. The game only has 5 missions and one of them has a trap…

  1. This mission is a kind of tutorial, lasting about 45 minutes.
  2. This one is super monotonous, since all you have to do is walk forward for 1 hour casting, for example, the ā€œForce Pushā€ power. It only gets a little better when you reach what is probably the best boss in the game.
  3. It is the worst phase of this video game (and probably many others), and it is the phase I am referring to when I say cheating. This is Yoda’s planet, in which we will enter, we will walk for 2 minutes, a video will appear, we will walk 1 more minute and the level will end…. Viva! It seems that everything pays off as long as the green dwarf comes out.
  4. It’s another tacky hour-long mission, in which you simply advance to face a boss. In this case it doesn’t even deserve mention, because it seems inserted to add something and add 10 minutes of play.
  5. And finally, we reach the fifth mission. It is probably one of the most entertaining, with some platforms, but with an incredible problem: the fight against Darth Vader as the final boss. Easily one of the worst final fights I’ve ever played in any video game. The fight lasts about 30 minutes, of which 20 you just have to keep swinging your sword at Darth Vader without any kind of pattern. Just hit and hit until the next video appears, to come out full of life again and start again. Pure and simple fun.

This makes an approximate total of about 5 hours. Something could be subtracted since one hour is of videos, 30 minutes is the very boring final fight and of course honorable mention 3 minutes into the third mission.

It seems shameful to me that a company of the stature of LucasArts, releases a game with 5 levels totally neglected, with a very poor duration and at the price of 70 euros. And on top of that, the worst thing is that they try to sew us into downloadable ones, which will surely complete the 5 or 6 hours that are missing, and will be much more careful.

Note

  • Presentation: The story is a disaster, it makes no sense and barely engages, and the levels are totally neglected. 3
  • Graphics: The graphics are pretty good, but graphics are not everything. 8
  • Duration and Engagement: The story mode in the simplest configuration lasts about 3-4 hours, which goes up to 5-6 on higher difficulties, and there is nothing more. 2
  • Final Note: Perhaps one of my biggest disappointments this year, it seems absurd to destroy a sequel like this. 3.5
