Ayer tuve la suerte de poder ir a ver este clĆ”sico de mi infancia al cine. No es que halla tenido mucho espacio en taquilla, pero la experiencia ha sido increĆble.
The possibility of going to see a movie twice at the cinema at different times is not something that happens very often (right now I only remember the case of Avatar and Kill Bill 1 when they released Kill Bill 2, since in some theaters they showed the two in a row in a crazy session :P)
At the moment the film has only been re-released in 3D in 4 countries in addition to Spain: Australia, India, Japan and Mexico. I donāt quite understand why in the United States the re-release of the film in 3D has been canceled for the moment, according to gossip, because Disney wants to wait for 3D TVs to be installed in more homes, in order to sell much more when the film comes out on DVD and BluRay. Even so, I smell that Disney will take advantage of the pull and we will see many more classics after this one: Aladdin, Hercules, The Lion King etcā¦
The film maintains the original voices, both in the characters and in the songs. The experience, therefore, is a perfect memory, at least for those of us who were lucky enough to go see it in November 92, when it premiered in Spain (It was released in November 91 in the USA). Let us remember that it was the first Disney feature film nominated for the Oscar for best film (Only one other animated film, Up, has managed to be nominated in this category). But it did win the Oscar for best original song and best soundtrack.
History
For those of you who have never had the pleasure of seeing it, I will briefly summarize its beautiful story, which is based on a fairy tale from 1756 by Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont, although taking quite a few liberties with the original script.
The story tells us the sad story of the Beast, who is a prince cursed by a sorceress due to his arrogance and lack of heart. The curse forces him to live locked in a Beast body so that he learns that beauty is inside. In addition, he also punished all his servants to become household objects. If he wanted to break the curse, he would have to conquer a young woman before he turned 21.
On the other hand Bella is the daughter of a crazy inventor, and at the same time, one of the most beautiful young women in the place. Even so, her love of reading and her great imagination makes the rest of the citizens believe that she is somewhat strange. GastĆ³n is the most handsome young man in the kingdom, and at the same time the most conceited, and he will be willing to do anything to win Bellaās heart.
Belleās father, on an unfortunate trip, ends up being locked up by the Beast in his castle, but Belle with her big heart, gives up her own freedom to the Beast, to free her father. From this moment on, Beast will become fond of Belle, but will he manage to win her love?
Without a doubt a story that will make you shed some tears.
Is 3D worth it?
In my opinion neither yes nor no. It depends a lot on what type of 3D effect you like.
In the case of this film the 3D effect is nice and light. It only gives a depth effect to the sets. At no time are things projected (āobjectsā is more accurate) with the sensation of leaving the screen (which is, for my taste, one of the most boring and repetitive effects in 3D films)
The film does not lose any of its color, which is another of the problems that affects some 3D films, thus maintaining all the liveness of the original. Although it is also true that the 3D effect is only noticeable in some parts of the film and in others it is barely noticeable.
Another slight problem I see with the 3D of this film is the cardboard effect it gives it. Let me explain. Do you remember those childhood books in which when you opened them, castles and cardboard structures emerged that, through different depths, simulated a 3D vision? Well, it is very similar, many times it gives the sensation that the sets that are closest to the viewer are a cardboard placed in front of the main scene.
Final Comments
A great film both in its time and today, which will delight both the little ones in the house and the adults who want to remember their childhood. Recommended for everyone who, like me, believes that the 90s were the best years of Disney.
