The game available for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC is available from June 3 for a price of €64.95 on consoles and €45.95 on PC.
But is there something more than destruction in this title? Definitely.

The first change that we will notice in Red Faction Armaggedon compared to the previous Red Faction, is that the game has moved from first person to third person, in a very convincing way. The controls will remind us a lot of other third-person titles, although it implements its unique characteristics related to destruction that we will narrate later.
Another big change is the change from an open sandbox to a game in closed scenarios with simple and close objectives, which we will meet to advance. I don’t know if it’s because I’m already tired of sandboxes, or maybe it’s not the best game to implement one, but the change has been totally right. Before, you had to walk half the map to achieve an objective, having to go through the scenery over and over again. In Armaggedon, we will have a system similar to Gears of War, dividing the action into “chapters” and fulfilling short-term objectives to continue advancing.
Red Faction Armaggedon, is set in a possible future of space colonization, with Mars as the head of human expansion. The game begins with a first mission that will lay the foundations of the game’s story. I don’t want to reveal the plot to you, but I assure you that the atmosphere of the first mission is quite different from the rest. From that moment on, things will go awry for our protagonist, whom we will have to help survive.

As we already mentioned, the main thing in this game is destruction, since it is possible to destroy almost the entire setting, and also rebuild it in moments thanks to nanotechnology. Thanks to this, we will benefit from multiple tactical options, for example, instead of shooting at an enemy I can destroy a building and make it fall on top of it, or destroy the ground that it is stepping on and watch it fall into the void, and then rebuild the ground ourselves, and continue advancing. This element, although simple, is one of the most fun parts of the game, allowing us to play in a different way than the common approach of arriving and shooting.
Another highlight of the game is its weapons, with special mention to the magnetic gun that will cause destruction everywhere with a simple mechanism. First we fire a shot at a place that will serve as support, then we will fire a second shot at another place, and instantly the thing we found shot at will be attracted to the area of the first shot. It seems complicated, but it’s a lot of fun to try things like throwing one enemy against another.
The game runs smoothly without slowdowns or major problems, the graphics, although not spectacular, comply. Regarding the sound section, things don’t start very well with very repetitive and quite annoying themes, but it progressively improves with truly epic moments.

Red Faction Armaggedon is a game that manages to entertain thanks to its mechanics that are truly different from the competition. If you want to play a shooter that is not more of the same, it is a great purchase.
Balance
In favor
- It is not a copy of all third-person shooters.
- The possibility of destroying our entire environment.
- The change to third person and the elimination of the sandbox has been great for him.
- The mag gun is amazing.
Against
- Sometimes the scenarios are too corridor.
- The music is sometimes quite repetitive (especially at the beginning).
