Download torrents as if they were direct downloads with put.io

put.io es un servicio que ya lleva funcionando un par de años, pero quizás ahora sea un buen momento para darlo a conocer. Básicamnete ofrece un cliente de bittorrent en la nube y que permite descargar torrents como si se tratase de descarga directa, agregándolos a la página y descargándolos desde ella.

Since Megaupload was closed by the FBI, almost all direct download users have been gradually returning to the torrent, a P2P system that, although it is not the panacea nor is it as fast as the dd, it fulfills its function… as long as the file we want to download is owned by enough people (in torrent terms, that it has enough seeds).

The problem occurs when the file is shared by few people: the download becomes slow and in some cases it never completes because we never match the people who share that file. With put.io, as it is a bittorrent client in the cloud that is always active and must have a cipher ratio, the file will be downloaded until it is complete, without having to have the computer on 24 hours a day.

That is the advantage of having a bittorrent client in the cloud, however, the feature that makes this service more attractive is speed. By using Gigabit technology, healthy files are added in no time (5GB in 5 seconds) to the page. Once added we can download it at the full speed of our connection using a download manager in our browser.

put.io also allows you to convert the video files that you download to mp4 so you can watch them on your iPhone and iPad via streaming, add subtitles (search for them in Opensubtitles) and also extract the files if they are compressed (it even works on compressed files with multiple parts). Ah! And it also has a webapp for Boxee and Plex.

However, it is not an unlimited service nor is it free. 3 plans are available: The basic $5 per month (10GB of storage/20GB of monthly bandwidth), the Pro of $10 per month (50GB of storage/100GB of monthly bandwidth) and the Premium of $20 per month (100GB of storage/200GB of monthly bandwidth).

I guess some people find it expensive and others find it cheap. I personally am not entirely clear. Unless I was in a real hurry, I wouldn’t pay for a bittorrent client in the cloud, but the speed makes it a really interesting product when we are in a hurry to download a file.
