You, who take careful care of who you share your posts with, who carry out a police investigation every time they send you a friend request and who, in healthy doubt with your inner self, think for hours whether you agree to be tagged in a photo with “that guy” on his luxury yacht during your summer vacation. How dare you, Facebook friends, disturb my peace!
Luckily for you, there is a solution at your fingertips to control what information can be shared with your friends’ apps and what cannot.
- Click on the gear at the top right to display your account configuration options.
- In the drop-down menu that appears, select “Privacy Settings”.
- In the sidebar, click on the “Applications” section.
- Scroll down to almost the bottom of the page and, in the section called “Applications that other people use”, click on “Edit”.
- Uncheck all the boxes corresponding to information you do not want to share.
- Press “Save changes” and take a deep breath.
We will no longer have to worry about the applications that our contacts use, although if you really do not want to allow any application (even the ones you use) to access your information, you can deactivate “the platform”, which is the entire Facebook social system that the applications use (Access using your Facebook account, social content in games, etc.). You can do it from the top of the applications section.
The bad thing is that if you deactivate it you will not be able to use any type of Facebook application. The good thing is that no bad company will be able to use your information to show you advertising relevant to your tastes or spy on you in their Machiavellian plan to dominate the world.
