Yesterday I watched Flags of Our Fathers, a Clint Eastwood film about the conquest of the island of Iwo Jima. I found it to be a rather dull film, since I was hoping to find a film like “Saving Private Ryan” as some critics described it and it seems to me that it only resembles it in the way the battles are filmed and the story is told.
The film is about the conquest of Iwo Jima, an island about 3000km south of Japan that had an airfield that was totally necessary for the American Mustangs that did not have much flight range and could not escort the B-29 bombers.
The facts also speak of the entire montage that occurred after the famous photo of the raising of the American flag by a group of soldiers and how the American government tried to attract consumers with the image of these 6 “heroes.”
The film seemed heavy to me, and it is strange coming from a World War II film, but the “emotional” moments of a drunk American Indian got me through, but it is still interesting to know something more about these historical events.
