When you first start Internet Explorer 7, we are asked if we want to activate Cleartype to make texts read better. This is nothing more than applying anti-aliasing to the letters to make them much smoother and more comfortable for the eye, something that in my opinion considerably increases usability.
Possibly many people do not have IE 7, but that is not an excuse for not being able to enjoy this visual improvement, at least for all those who use Windows XP or Windows Vista (the latter has ClearType activated by default).
To activate ClearType in Windows XP, just go to Control Panel > Display > Appearance > Effects > And where it says āUse the following method to soften the edges of fonts on the screenā, select ClearType. As soon as we apply the changes we will see that the difference is quite high. (I donāt know if it will affect resources in any way, although I donāt think it will affect much because Kubuntu also uses it.)
