We have already chosen the ideal company for our Machiavellian plans for Web 2.0 domination, but it turns out that we have contracted a domain with another company, and either because we are interested in unifying all the charges and invoices into one, or because the price of the new hosting is better than the previous one, we want to transfer our domain. How do we get the new hosting company to take over our domain?
There is a key, called EPP, which is like a password for each domain and āregistrantā. This key is provided to us by the company with which we register the domain, and it will be used to give it to the new registrant in case we decide to abandon the current one, as proof that we are the owners of the domain. When we contract our new plan, in most cases we will be able to choose whether to transfer the domain or keep it with our old registrant, and, in the first case, we will have to provide said key.
Generally, we can find this key in the hosting configuration panel (For example, in Dreamhost it is located in Domains > Transfer Domains), although if we cannot find it, we can always request it through customer service, which should not give us any problems.
Once contracted correctly, we will have to wait from a few hours to a few days for a confirmation email to arrive to approve the domain transfer. From here we will have to wait for our new hosting to give us access data to our configuration panels, among which is the domain and DNS management panel.
