The Constant

I admit it, the beginning of the fourth season of Lost didn’t give me much more, it seemed more like a mid-season episode than a beginning, with things that we already knew were going to happen and others that were intuited, but this week’s episode seemed to me to be one of the most extremely scary and good episodes of the entire series, by far.

Saying this about an episode of Lost has a lot of meaning, I know, because each one has its good and bad things, but generally it is the Desmond ones that cause me greater expectation and uncertainty, as has happened with this 4x05: The Constant.

I think the foray into the series of the ship’s peculiar team has been completely successful, especially by Daniel Faraday, who is by far the one with the most charisma of all. This, along with the FlashForwards, has given the series the breath of fresh air that it never needed, but that is appreciated.

Speaking of The Constant, it seems that we already have the answer to one of the questions that has caused the most headaches for all fans of the series: the relationship between the island and the ‘outside world’. Now we know that there is a space-time gap between it and the outside, that you can only leave the island through certain coordinates and that if you do not do so there are some more than peculiar ‘side effects’. These side effects consist of the person who suffers from them making a ‘psychic’ trip in time, suddenly changing place and date (roughly speaking). Unfortunately, those who suffer from it must have a ‘constant’ between both dates so that their brain does not short circuit.

I don’t want to tell the chapter. It is worth being seen. But there is one thing that caught my attention about it, and I don’t know if it was mine or not because I didn’t read it anywhere. If you notice, throughout the chapter, the famous Minkowski supposedly suffers from the ‘side effects’ of the island, but he remembers perfectly who he is and where the ship’s communications room is, while Desmond only remembers things from his past past, not his future past (what a mess). Because? I’ll leave that there for you to speculate. ;)
