A little over a year ago, I gave my opinions on the third season of Lost, which I am increasingly convinced is the best series of all time in all aspects; and I am convinced, because it simply is.
Each season that passes manages to keep viewers in suspense with a totally unpredictable plot season after season, and in this fourth season, they have done nothing more than curl the loop by showing us the future of the characters with some spectacular flashforwards, which in my opinion, have made the series gain a lot.
Fears and Pretensions: What could have been
At the end of the third season, when we saw the first and spectacular “flashforward” of the series (in which a completely emaciated Leonidas Jack was seen). Everyone agreed that this was a spectacular, brilliant and unexpected twist to give the series a new and original point of view. But we had to be cautious, since this way we could mercilessly gut the plot of the series and make it lose all interest, because… since we already knew what was going to happen… I myself was afraid that this would happen.
Fortunately, the worst forecasts were not fulfilled, although, although it is true, the audience decreased considerably (What can you expect from a country where American Idol triumphs?). Although it is well known that the pillars of this series are on the internet and that is where the hordes of spoiler-craving geeks wait for a new chapter every Friday.
What this season has been like
As I say, the flashforwards have given the series a much-needed refreshment, since some of the flashbacks were boring (Jack’s) and others simply didn’t add anything to the story (Congratulations on brushing your sister, Boone). However, if a few days ago I said that the plot of the Futurama movie was great, I described this season of Lost as great (in bold). Throughout the season, we were shown two different stories: one, how they managed to leave the island, and another, which shows the reasons why they decide to return to it.
Something that I think has been very good for the season is its short duration, it has had almost no boring episodes (Yi Jeon and the one about Jack’s appendicitis are the two that come to mind).
The climax
Seguramente que a todo el que se le pregunte cuál ha sido el momento que más le ha gustado dirá que ha sido el capítulo titulado “La Constante”, ya que revela el que posiblemente sea el principal enigma de la serie y sobre lo que gira todo el argumento. Hemos conocido que existe un desfase espacio/temporal entre la isla y el resto del mundo y lo que es el efecto “Casimir”, y también que algunos habitantes de la isla no envejecen. También sabemos que la isla se puede mover de sitio y que hay una especie de “guerra de bandas” entre los pupilos de Widmore y Ben. Y, por supuesto, Locke en el ataúd que pudimos ver al final de la tercera temporada…
Conclusion
As they say, the good, if brief, is twice as good, and I think it suits this season of Lost like no other. All seasons of the lost have their pros and cons, but I think this one has stood out, probably because it is the one in which the most elements of the plot have been revealed. What will the next season have in store for us? I dare to predict that we will once again see flashbacks of all the “bad things” that have happened on the island since the “Oceanic 6” left while we will be shown the attempts of the latter to return to the island. I want the fifth season now!
