Botella de Pepsi

After the relative success of “Revealing the secret of Coca-Cola” a similar article could not be missing to do the same with its great competitor and rival in the markets: Pepsi.

The documents consulted about its history date back to 1890 as its date of origin, at which time Coca-Cola already enjoyed great popularity in the United States, so this new drink was created to compete with the first.

Initially composed of carbonated water, sugar, vanilla, strange oils, pepsin, and cola beans, it began to be sold using old beer bottles as containers, so they sold more of it than Coca-Cola offered at that time, a fact that undoubtedly led Pepsi to obtain great popularity, even being declared the drink of the lower classes.

Similar to its competitor, Pepsi has also launched different soft drinks depending on the commercial areas. Thus, different types of Pepsi were born, such as Pepsi Diet (diet), Pepsi Clear (colored transparent), Pepsi ONE (with a single calorie), Pepsi Twist (with lemon flavor) or Pepsi Blue (which, as its name suggests, had blue color**).

As for its marketing and advertising campaign, it is not far behind the red-packaged drink. Pepsi has oriented its spots to the appearance of celebrities or well-known famous people who are delighted to pose next to the blue-wrapped soft drink. From Michael Jackson to Britney Spears, through Ronaldinho and Beckham, there have been many who have lent their image to advertisements.

Pepsi also exploited the concept of “Pepsi Generation”, flattering those born in the 70s and dedicating advertising campaigns to them.

And in the end these two drinks are more similar than we think. We have also grown up with Pepsi spots and today they are so comparable in the market that I wonder…Coca-Cola or Pepsi?
