Is there anything worse than picking up the TV remote in the middle of August and starting to zap? Few things are as soporific as watching summer television programming, where a feeling of boredom invades you as you watch reruns of that crappy series from the late 80s over and over again.
If you understand the previous paragraph perfectly, I propose a memory exercise and I invite you to dare to take a walk through the past with the help of the newspaper library and, of course, YouTube.
Let’s start with a classic from Antena 3’s Thursday nights: Farmacia de Guardia. This series produced by Antonio Mercero garnered great audience successes in the 90s and concluded on December 28, 1995, turning Antena3 into the fashion network and showing the most conservative viewers that there was life beyond TVE. Here you can see the theme song for this comedy, a melody that we will all recognize.
The replacement of the leadership of the Farmacia de Guardia audiences was picked up that same year by another family series, in this case from the competition: “Family Doctor”. I can’t say much that you don’t already know about the ins and outs of its plot and its characters (Chechu, Juani, Grandpa, etc.) but if there’s one thing that Family Doctor is remembered for, it’s because of the tragic death of Marcial, co-worker of the protagonist and one of the “secondaries” most appreciated by viewers. If you have little brothers, nephews, cousins or children, look back and think about what the drawings were like that in our childhood entertained us during after-meals and afternoons, and for which we left parks and snacks aside to sit for a while in front of the silly box. A good example of these animated series were “Los Fruittis”, created in Spain and which still make us sigh today when we remember a time when we had no worries.
And what can we also say about 1992, the year in which the Expo and the Olympic Games landed in Spain revolutionizing society and, of course, that was also reflected on television. Visiting YouTube I take a look at this video in which you can see the end of the TVE news, some curtains and references to its programming and, in short, how our country faced this challenge by displaying a modernity that seems laughable to us today but that was not so at the time.
So when you are tired of so much advertising, you can’t find a program to your liking or you are simply curious**, do not hesitate to let the network of networks make you laugh when you remember how we enjoyed it in the past, and let yourself be invaded by the television nostalgia of a blue summer.
