Conclusions from a blogging weekend (I)

The Internet Meeting Point Forum 2009 has ended and now it’s time to give my impressions of it and evaluate from my point of view what was there.

I had never attended an event of this type, much less participated, so everything for me was new, from going to eat with people from the internet and the blog world to participating in a round table in front of more than 100 people on site and 1000 following the internet streaming.

Maybe I would have enjoyed it more if I hadn’t had to worry about exams, but I’m a nervous person and anyone can take my mind off an exam. But let’s go with my impressions. For a week, some of the most representative personalities of the Internet in Spain and the world of blogs met in Gijón. I only knew the Asturians, and since there were few of us, I felt a little overwhelmed to see that I had by my side people whom I had been reading for some time, even years. My first conclusion? I think we have an old representative ‘blogosphere’. It is very noticeable that they have been the first to have a blog in Spain and also the first who began to attend blog events, get to know each other and form personal relationships with each other. Creating a blog at the right time can make the difference between being successful or going unnoticed.

And it is something that feeds back, if the same people always go to the events, those who are considered representative, those who the other bloggers will take as references will always be the same and will adapt their themes according to them. And start again.

I’m not sure if this is good or bad, it just is. Many would like to think that the internet is an anarchy in which all voices are worth the same, but it is not like that, nor do I think it will ever be. You have to accept it and that’s it.

Are blogs dead? No, I believe that in Spain they have not yet been born, and Mark Frauenfelder with his talk was the clear example of this. When we worry more about creating useful and interesting content and leave aside the tools with which we do it, that will be when the true birth of blogs will occur, and if Adsense disappeared this birth would occur much sooner.
