I really wasnāt planning to write anything about Michael Jackson, but this is already two articles and it seems that after the artistās death some quite interesting curiosities are coming out about his performances**, such as in this case the patent for shoes that allowed him to do tricks on stage.
This patent, which was registered in 1993, was responsible for a surprising dance step that allowed Michael Jackson to fight against the laws of gravity and lean forward at a 45-degree angle with the ground without falling. The first time he did something like this was the Smooth Criminal video clip in 1988, although that time he was helped by cables and harnesses. However, in 1992, during a performance he left the entire audience speechless by doing the same thing live along with the rest of his dancers, only this time he was not wearing harnesses.
Magic? Not much less. Just a little ingenuity to create shoes with a hole underneath, which would hook onto pieces that came out of the ground at the right moment. Both the artist and the rest of the dancers had to place themselves in the exact place to hook onto these pieces that would come out of the floor (note the dancer on the right who seems to stumble when he gets back up after 3:45).
By the way, spectacular performance. It must have been a joy to see him live in his heyday.
