Como seguramente todos sabréis, el Gobierno tiene planeado subir el IVA en Julio, situando en el 18% el general (elementos que no son de primera necesidad) que antes estaba al 16% y al reducido (impuestos de la hostelería y turismo) en el 8%, aumentándolo un 1%.
I am not an economist or anything like that, but from my limited knowledge of logic, this measure seems to me to collide head-on with the current situation of the economy due to the consequences it will entail. It is clear that this measure is going to have an impact in one way or another on prices, and I can only think of two ways for merchants to act: raise the price of the products so that they are not affected by the increase in VAT or lower the price of the products so that with the increase in VAT they remain as before.
Each of the two measures will be bad for consumption, the first because you cannot hope to encourage consumption with a price increase and the second because it will directly harm merchants, who will see their profits reduced. I vote for the first option properly rounded up to the next unit (prices++).
Of course, workers’ salaries do not rise, and it is not at all logical that prices are practically the same (or higher in some cases, such as in the entertainment sector) when the minimum wage barely reaches half that of our neighbors. Obviously something doesn’t fit.
I understand that the State needs financing, but this measure seems wrong to me when subsidies are being granted to companies and businesses that would not be profitable without them (let’s see how long the dealers and the motor industry can endure going under).
We all fix this, paying more so that a few can live better.
