Ayer fui al cine a ver Iron Man 2, una de esas películas que esperaba con ganas desde hacía bastante tiempo. Tenía las expectativas bastante altas después de la genial primera parte, así que era muy fácil que me llevase una decepción. Por suerte, no fue así.
Iron Man 2 takes us some time after the first film, when Tony Stark confessed that he was Iron Man. After the announcement, he manages to “privatize world peace” by instilling fear in terrorists and the governments of all countries in the world because no one can fight him. But as if this were true there would be no movie, Ivan Vanko enters the scene, a brilliant Russian physicist whose father was expelled from Stark Industries and after his death he decides to take revenge on the Stark family by becoming Whiplash.
Scarlett Johanson also appears in the film in the role of Black Widow, but in my opinion she is tremendously wasted (she could show a lot more flesh, why should we fool ourselves). The plot is quite average and in some parts squeaks in pursuit of cinematic spectacularity. In addition, the president of the rival company Stark Industries, Justin Hammer, is so overacted and exaggerated that it is even ridiculous.
The appearance of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury is most curious, as if he had come out of Pulp Fiction, and there is no shortage of nods to other characters in the Marvel universe, such as Captain America or the always eternal reference to the Avengers movie (I don’t know why I think the movie is going to be rubbish after so much hype). As for War Machine, his appearances are small but spectacular and I think this character could have been used more.
Robert Downey Jr. seems like he is made to be Tony Stark, and I suppose one of the reasons is the similarities between the two in their personal lives (aside from the differences, of course, one exists and the other does not). It would be difficult to see another actor playing his role.
In conclusion, Iron Man 2 will not go down in history for being a masterpiece, and although it is at the level of the first part, it may lack the element of surprise. He will give the fans a good time, and why should we kid ourselves, that is his mission.
