I have always been one of those who have jailbroken their iPhone, more out of necessity than because it offered me something different and useful. However, with the passage of time applications have emerged in Cydia that well deserve to have the iPhone ājailbrokenā and that would be impossible for them to exist in the App Store due to Appleās policies. Applications that add useful functionalities and make you wonder why the hell Apple doesnāt implement them as standard on its devices.
There are my 5 reasons why I would recommend jailbreaking your iPhone/iPad/iPod. In my opinion they are worth it. All of them are available in Cydia.
- Wifi-Sync: If you are tired of having to connect your iPhone, iPad or iPod to your computer to synchronize it, this application can be of great help to you, since its purpose is to synchronize over Wifi. To make it work you have to download the program from Cydia and install it on the phone and also install a client on the computer, which will be in charge of detecting the device we want to synchronize.
- Lockinfo: Adds a lot of information to the iPhone lock screen, such as weather, calendar events, agenda, Things tasks, notifications, etc. The main use that I see for it is to look at the time and have a list of all the events on our calendar. It also supports plugins, so its possibilities increase greatly since they can be integrated with other applications.
- SBSettings: What this application adds is a kind of shortcut to everyday tasks if we slide our finger across the top of the phone, saving us from having to enter Settings for tasks such as deactivating or activating 3G, Wi-Fi and many other things. Above all, it provides speed, which makes it one of my essentials.
- iBlackList: If you are fed up with calls from advertising phone numbers or do not want to receive calls from a certain phone number, you can try this application. It allows you to create automatic rules when a phone number calls you, such as showing up busy, picking up and hanging up, etc.
- iTether/Mywi: Since Apple is very smart, instead of allowing internet sharing from the iPhone to the iPad, they decide to release a 3G iPad that is much more expensive than the normal one. By installing iTether on iPad, you can use the iPhoneās data connection through the phoneās Bluetooth option. MyWi offers the same but through Wifi or USB cable, so you can choose the one that suits you best (MyWi consumes battery much more quickly).
And here are my 5 applications for which it is worth jailbreaking an Apple gadget. Surely you have others, so I invite you to share in the comments.
Jailbreaking a device is not the same as hacking it nor does it have anything to do with piracy. I do not have any pirated programs installed and I have even paid for others that are only available in the Cydia Store, such as Resupported (to make unofficial video cables work), Lockinfo (to show information on the lock screen) or iTether (to tether the iPad). Jailbreaking a device that you bought with your money is a right, and it is the only way to bypass some stupid limitations that manufacturers impose on us.
