As you all know, at bocabit we advocate quality entertainment. That is why we cannot ignore the recommendation of a series that has just been released, but that promises a lot. This is Shameless in its American version, broadcast by the cable network Showtime, which is based on the British series of the same name that has been dazzling its audience for eight seasons. I donât know to what extent the new version is faithful to the original, which is why this recommendation is focused on the Yankee adaptation.
Frank Gallagher (played by William H. Macy) lives in a poor neighborhood in the suburbs of Chicago with his six children. The eldest of them, Fiona (Emmy Rossum) plays mother to everyone, including her own father, a man whose sole purpose in life is to find just enough money to come home drunk every night. While everyone is looking for life as best they can day by day, a boy named Steve (Justin Chatwin) appears in Fionaâs life willing to do everything for her.
The series, no matter how you look at it, is loaded with humor, without being a silly comedy of canned laughter. Each character has their personal point, from the dysfunctionality of the father to the common sense of Fiona or the nobility of Lip, the second of the brothers. The daily life of a poor family is shown in Shameless in a way full of tenderness and humor, how a new washing machine can change the lives of many people, or how a borrowed grandmother becomes a fundamental pillar for some people.
Words become scarce when talking about Shameless. Not because there is nothing to talk about about it, but quite the opposite: there are hundreds of things to comment on. Therefore, it is better that you write it down in your weekly download agenda. It wonât take you long to catch up with it: for now only four of the twelve chapters that will make up the first season have been broadcast. I just have to admit that Shameless has become for me the most anticipated series of the week, and I watch many (but many) series. Donât let her pass you by, she may teach you a few lessons and youâll end up looking at your comfortable life in a different way.
