The game is currently available for Xbox Live Arcade, Windows, Mac, iPhone and iPad and will soon have a version for Nintendo DS and PSN. The versions currently available cost less than 10 euros and each version, despite being practically the same as the others, offers a different gaming experience in terms of playability (touch control wins over control).
The game mechanics consist of stopping the horde of zombies that are approaching your house through your garden with the plants you have on hand, which will shoot at them and kill them. At first, the number of plants we have is very limited, but as we progress, we will obtain more with various abilities, some very powerful. To plant the plants we will need to have soles, with which we will buy plants during the screens, and each plant will have a certain price, which can vary between 25 and 300 soles.

The game is made up of 5 levels with 9 screens each, and between them you can enter the in-game store to buy new types of special plants, more slots to place plants, protections against zombies or tools to keep our Zen garden in perfect condition.
The first time I played this game was on the iPhone in one of its first versions, when its icon was still a plant and it barely had a game mode, but the developers have been adding game modes until it has become a must-have with an acceptable duration and quality/price ratio. There are differences between the different platforms for which the game is available, for example the Xbox 360 version has more game modes than the iPad version. Both have minigames, but the X360 also has multiplayer mode, a Zen garden in which we can grow plants to sell them and earn money.
As for the graphic section, the game looks like a cartoon, with a great variety of zombies and a cute style.
The main flaw of the game would undoubtedly be the sound section, which is quite repetitive when you have been playing for a while and you realize that the music of the levels is always the same. Although its duration is acceptable, at times it can become somewhat repetitive since the mechanics are almost always the same.
Curiosities
Plants vs. Zombies is a good game, friendly, entertaining and suitable for all ages. It is not perfect, but it is certainly original and unique in its theme, ideal for playing a few games when we have little time to play the console. The purpose of the game is to stop the zombie horde that is trying to reach your house by your lawn with the plants that you have available. Those plants will start shooting and attacking the zombies until all of them are dead. At the start of the game, the number of plants will be quite small, but as soon as you keep surviving, we will receive new types of plants that will have new abilities, some of them very powerful. To put the plants we will need sun energy (the mana of this game), which is gained by plating sunflowers or getting it directly from the sun.

The game has 5 levels with 9 screens each, and at every moment you can go to the game shop to buy new types of plants, last defense items, Zen garden stuff or more slots for plants.
The first time I played this game was on the iPhone in one of the first versions of the game, when the icon was yet a plant and the game just had few things more than adventure mode. But Popcap has been adding stuff to the game achieving the status of a recommended game for everyone, with a very good duration and quality/price ratio. There are some differences between the different platforms where the game is available, for example the Xbox 360 one has more game modes than the iPad one. All of them have minigames, but the X360 has also a multiplayer mode, a Zen garden where you can farm money easily by putting plants on pots.
The game shows a good graphical aspect, with a cartoon style and a great display of art on every zombie and plant, it is a very nice funny style.
The only not so good aspect of the game would be the music, that can be a bit repetitive. When you are playing for a long time on adventure mode you realize that the background music is always the same. Even though the duration is perfect, the game can also get repetitive if you donât like Tower defense games mechanics.
Curious things
On the first versions of the game, there was a zombie that appeared dancing and resembled Michael Jackson on the Thriller video clip. When the artist died their lawyers contacted Popcap to delete that zombie from the game because it showed âa bad imageâ of him. The game studio accepted and in a game update, transformed that zombie into a disco music dancer.
Plants vs. Zombies is a good game, entertaining and good for all ages. It is not perfect, but it is original and unique on its type, ideal for playing when we donât have a lot of spare time to play on the console but we want some good fun moments.
