Marvel vs Capcom 3, filling the screen with magic 11 years later

Marvel vs Capcom 3 is available for PS3 and Xbox 360 at a price of €56.90 since February of this year.

Has Capcom managed to improve its predecessor? In my opinion, there are many reasons to think otherwise. Marvel vs Capcom 3

To begin with, I must clarify that I loved the game. Although it may seem like I’m giving it a lot of wax, it’s because I would like to clarify many things that other websites have overlooked and that, from my point of view, are very serious errors for a large company like Capcom.

So let’s start with the good parts. In the graphic section, the animations of the game are very fluid, and it seems incredible how many things happen on the screen at the same time. It is a credit to Capcom for having created each character individually for the game, (In MvC 2 most of the characters were reused from other games). This is especially noticeable in the small details such as the super attacks, which are a graphic delight, or some of the character movements, for example, every time MODOK attacks, he presses a button on his computer. As for the sound section, the individual themes for each character are quite good and even the menu music is quite appropriate.

Continuing with the not so good parts, it can be said that it is probably the most accessible 2D fighting game for more casual players. Unlike Street Fighter, where a good player destroys you; In MvC 3, a player who chooses good equipment and only mashes buttons can give you a lot of war. This is a section highly criticized by some and praised by others. I put myself a little in the middle, that is, I appreciate that a good player can be given some milk, but I hate people who take a lightning-shooting device and sit in a corner mashing a button.

Speaking of said people, this is one of the worst sections of the game. The poor balance between characters means that you find too many teams made up of the 2-3 best characters and it ends up being boring if you don’t play with acquaintances. The best experience is when both players choose the characters at random, in order to try to minimize the balancing problems of the Capcom game. I don’t think it would be very difficult to place characters in different tiers and limit their use in ranked games.

Another big problem is online, it seems incredible that in the middle of 2011 a fighting game, in which only 2 people can fight, there is no spectator mode. The only thing we have is some bars (which are not even updated in real time) that we will see go down. It’s really a pain to be playing with 4-5 friends and getting bored 20 out of every 30 minutes.

And as the last big problem, the character list has dropped from 56 to 36 characters. It seems crazy considering the capabilities of the latest generation consoles, but the explanation is easy. Capcom’s policy is clear, they want to make money with characters in the form of downloadable content, and for that it is much better to leave the game somewhat lame in terms of characters, and then sell us the most striking ones for €6 each (For example Jill).

Note

  • Presentation: The story is quite filler, and where the game really takes advantage is in the versus/online mode. The characters are taken care of to the millimeter and you can see Marvel’s care in their characters. 8
  • Graphics: The graphics are very good, there are many things happening on the screen and at no time did we notice any jerk. 8.5
  • Duration and Engagement: The game lasts many hours, if you can play it online, the story mode is a simple training session and after the second or third time it loses all its fun. 7.5
  • Final Note: Marvel vs Capcom 3 is a very good game. But one feels something strange when seeing how what could have been a perfect game from start to finish, does not achieve it because of some rookie mistakes. Which are unforgivable for a company like Capcom with a lot of experience in the world of video games. 8.1
