Chillon Castle is located next to Montreux, at the farthest end of Lake Geneva from Geneva. It can be reached on foot from Montreux by walking about 40 minutes (2.7km) and is one of those places that are worth visiting. Although at first it may seem a little expensive (entrance is 12.50 chf) I think it is one of those places that is worth every penny.
The castle dates back to the 13th century but was used by the House of Savoy and later by the Bernese until the 18th century, inspiring at that time a poem by Lord Byron, who has his name engraved in the dungeons like so many other visitors. It is restored, including the wooden areas on the walls that allow you to go from one area of the castle to another (and they are very cool). Going through the whole thing can take us about an hour and a half (without stopping too much).
