After analyzing the Fotolog website a little, I am now going to focus on the phenomenon itself: What do people use it for?
As I said before, photologs are a means of communication thanks to which you can have a kind of photographic “diary”, in which you can make a summary of everything you did in a day. Unfortunately, theory does not equal practice.
Generally, and no matter how much you search, most photologs are bastions of bad taste, insubstantial content and a lack of self-love, in addition to a notable disregard for the Spanish language and an exaggerated abuse of copy&paste.
“With the blog phenomenon, the most that little girls regretted was telling their first sexual experience on the Internet. With the fotolog phenomenon, they now regret that half the world has not seen photos of that first experience.”
The problem, as manu rightly says, is that when we say that the majority of people who have a photolog are teenagers, we are talking about minors, who supposedly have to ask their parents for permission to create it (Ha!). In a few words, it is what could be called “the paradise of pedophiles Volume 1” (I will talk about volume 2 later, those places called “SexyONo” and “VotaMyCuerpo”, which I am not going to link to from my blog because of how shabby and creepy they seem to me). I say the “paradise of pedophiles” because the aforementioned young men generally appear in photos posing, and, as it could not be otherwise, showing more flesh than clothes, seeking, of course, to be told how “beautiful and how good they are.”
An example of insubstantial content is typing “Alex Ubago Lyrics” into Google, copying everything you find and pasting it into your photolog…Who the hell cares? If we add to these insubstantial contents the fact that they are written in SMS language, it makes one want to commit harakiri.
PDTA: Thanks to manu for inspiring me with this entry.
