Well, I just finished watching the last two episodes of the third season of Lost, so I think itâs a good time to analyze all the season endings of the series I follow: Prison Break (season 2), The Lost Room (season 1), Heroes (season 1) and Lost (season 3). If you donât want to be spoiled by anything from the end of these seasons, donât bother reading any further (or if you do, at your own risk). Letâs go with the first of this series of 4 posts: Prison Break.
Prison Break was going to be a series that would initially last one season, but given its overwhelming success, they extended it for one more season, with a more or less decent ending. Then, since the second season was also very successful, they decided to make a third, but the ending was no longer as decent.
All the protagonists are in Panama for âthings of destiny.â Mahome traps Lyncoln Burrows in a warehouse while Bellic, Sucre and Scofield try to hunt down T-Bag, who as always doubles up and the police capture Bellic as a murder suspect, Sucre is left half-dead and Scofield goes after T-Bag, who sticks a knife in âhis good handâ and the police arrest him.
Then Scofield puts cocaine on Mahomeâs boat and the police arrest him, thus leaving his brother free. But as fate would have it, Kim (Better known as the ball-playing Chinese) appears while Lyncoln, Scofield and Sara! (Which had opened a space-time hole to go from Washington to Panama in less than a day) they prepare their yacht to leave. Then Sara shoots Kim, the police arrive and arrest Scofield. This is how they lock Scofield back in jail. We go back to the beginning.
I donât know about you, but I get a little bored with the idea of ââalways escaping, because itâs always the same. I think they could save us a lot of disappointment by making 3-episode seasons (the first they get out of jail, the second they escape and the third they get caught), because they wonât be able to make the series vary too much, much less removing it from that theme.
My verdict: Predictable to a fault (Things that are not predictable make no head or tail) and with an ending that makes you think âWhy am I going to continue watching this series? If all, now it will do the same as in the first seasonâŠ
