Reviews of the New Xbox Experience

New Xbox Experience Ayer ha salido por fin la actualizaci贸n del dashboard de Xbox 360, llamado por Microsoft la NXE o New Xbox Experience.

After 3 minutes of downloading and the relevant restart, the new dashboard had already been installed, and we were taken directly to the creation of our avatar.

Avatars

The creation of avatars is quite similar to that of the Wii, and despite having better definition and graphics, they are much more limited, since it does not allow modifying the size and position of the facial features and accessories. It is clear that the reason for this is to get more profit from selling new accessories for the avatars.

In this aspect, they have clearly tried to copy the Miis, but I still like the latter more since they can be customized more (create deformities, come on :)).

The Dashboard

From a first glance, you realize that scrolling through the menu is exactly the same as that of the PSP or PS3, moving the joystick up and down to move through the options and left and right to move through the submenus.

It may be more intuitive and attractive than the previous one, but some options have so many submenus that it is a bit heavy to scroll to the right or left.

Conclusion: Good

The Home button

I really don鈥檛 understand why, if what they were looking for was ease of use with this update, they have put the Home menu this way, since it has the same structure as the previous Xbox 360 dashboard, with the damn tabs that take forever to get used to. Furthermore, it seems to be out of harmony with the rest of the dashboard.

New Xbox experience

Video Bazaar

It allows you to rent movies in SD and HD at quite acceptable prices of between 2 and 3 euros. However, I don鈥檛 think it would have cost them too much to allow you to see trailers for them in HD, which is what I was trying but couldn鈥檛 find a way. In addition, there are no Columbia (Sony) movies, which surely gives the PS3 a point in favor

Features

  • Installing the games on the hard drive is a joy. It takes 10 minutes and takes up almost 7 Gigs, but it is really worth it if we take into account how quiet the console becomes.
  • It鈥檚 about time they introduced group conversations, and although I haven鈥檛 tried any, I鈥檓 sure they will work perfectly just as individual conversations do.
  • Compatibility for 16:10 screens, although I have not tried it, I have been told that it has black stripes.

Conclusions

Many new features in this update were necessary for a long time, and others such as avatars or the Video Bazaar will surely allow Microsoft to gain some more users and also some euros. However, I think it talks too much about it being a copy of what Nintendo and Sony already offer respectively. Without a doubt, it will not be of originality that Microsoft can boast.
