Itās rare for me to take a transatlantic trip, but even rarer to take a transatlantic trip and buy a book. Perhaps it is one of those magical situations that only occur once in a lifetime due to the magic of the Barajas stores that these two situations came together with a book that interested me from the moment I turned it over to see the synopsis: A zombie invasion? Fuck Yeah!.
World War Z is a zombie book written by Max Brooks (son of the famous Mel Brooks) in which all the events of a hypothetical third world war are told in which humanity is attacked by the undead until its almost total extinction. The book is made up of a series of chronologically ordered interviews with the survivors of the catastrophe, of different nationalities, professions and social conditions; from senior leaders to soldiers, priests or civilians. The book is very interesting because it treats all the topics with absolute realism (as far as it can, which is about zombies) and always taking into account current political and social conditions. How would governments act? What solution would you take? What the hell would happen to North Korea?
As I say, I found the book brutal (Separate post, it would be worth talking about the āgeolocated euthanasiaā, the quislings and the āI am Legendā) and while I was reading it I kept begging myself not to make a movie based on it. Unfortunately my prayers were not answered and the film version of World War Z is planned for next year. What can we expect from it? Well, I venture to predict a film like District 9 but with zombies, documentary style and, of course, it will be a dry trick.
