Dead Island, zombies in New Guinea

I take my hat off to this trailer, belonging to Dead Island, a game developed by the company Techland that will be available for Xbox 360, PS3 and Windows, which will place us in an apocalyptic environment in which zombies have invaded a paradisiacal and fictional island of Banoi, in New Guinea.

Apparently, in the game we will have an open world to investigate, but what puts me off is that it is in first person. As a fan of the zombie genre, I believe that its main quality and that therefore it should be exploited the most is fear and tension, and that therefore, the “kill kills” that claim to be realistic but that are still shooters do not convince me. A while ago I bought Left 4 Dead 2 for just 3 euros on Steam and I didn’t quite get the hang of it in the sense that they could have included zombies, demons or Halo Elites with lightsabers. If you have zombies, you have to take advantage of them.

For me, the perfect formula for a zombie game is still Resident Evil (1,2,3, Code Veronica, Zero), in which you are in permanent tension because you don’t know what is going to be around the corner, something that The Walking Dead series is conveying very well.

Who knows? Techland may manage to turn the genre upside down and manage to convey interesting sensations in Dead Island, but for my part I leave a hint of doubt until more data appears.
