Tras la triste noticia de que Google había comprado Sparrow y que esta aplicación no se iba a volver a actualizar, decidí que había llegado el momento de cambiar e ir probando otras alternativas.
I never liked Mail. Not even its latest version, because I’m not convinced by the way it manages labels, in addition to the fact that the signature system seems unintuitive to me and that the integration with the Mountain Lion notification center is only done when the application is open.
My next option was to use an email notifier and directly access the Gmail website. I chose Notify, a fairly complete paid application, and I stuck with it for a while, until Mountain Lion arrived and its developer decided to discontinue it.
After the disappointment of having paid for an application that they had stopped updating less than a year after purchasing it, I looked for another solution compatible with Mountain Lion and I found Gmail Notifr, another notifier (although this time free) that, although it is quite simple, fulfills the functions I was looking for.
- That it consumes almost no resources.
- Allow multiple accounts.
- That it is compatible with Mountain Lion and its notification center.
- Allows you to modify the message alert sounds.
That’s neither more nor less what the application does (And it’s in Spanish!). I’m very comfortable using Gmail from the web interface, so I’ll move forward with this for now until I find a better solution.
